Book Haul & Wrap Up|| August.

Hey!

Happy September! That means I can start decorating for Halloween, right? 🎃 So close to my favorite spooky month! I am hoping to make a trip to Target this weekend in the hopes that they have their Halloween decor out. I NEED more! Target always has some really great holiday decor, so hopefully I find some new things I like for this year. I have a couple ideas of what I am looking for and I am hoping they have it. August was a busy month for me. I was finishing up my photography class (which I loved) and then I was able to go visit my family for a weekend. I spent lots of time playing Stardew Valley because once again, this game is addicting. And I got back into diamond painting again. I’m off and on with it. I’ll be really obsessed and do it ALL THE TIME and then I won’t do it for a long, long time until I pick it up again haha. I’ve also been working and got extended at my job to the end of November, which is great.

As you can see from the title of this blog post, I decided to once again combine my book haul and wrap up post together because they are both pretty small for August as well. As you’ve probably seen in the past, I usually do them in separate posts. I will first start with my August book haul and then get into my wrap up after that! I didn’t get many books this month. I believe it was only just six books. Three print books and three e-books. You can check out a full list of the books that I own over here. There’s links to different pages on my blog that show my e-books and my physical books. I haven’t updated that page since early February though (I really need to find some time to do this. I’m slacking, sigh.), so an update for that is coming soon. But anyway, here are the books that I got in August.

Fresh and In the Wild Light were two of my August pre-orders and I am really looking forward to reading them; especially Jeff Zentner’s new book. I always love his books, so I’m excited! I buy pretty much all of Alice Osemen’s books, so I decided to buy I Was Born for This since I didn’t have it yet and I want to read all her books before the year ends. The last three are e-books. I’ve been wanting these e-books to go on sale and I was stoked to see them on sale in July! 🙂 I am so stoked to read them. The Trials of Morrigan Crow looks and sounds good, so I had to get it when I saw it on sale. I read a couple chapters of The Children’s Block and hopefully will get back into it soon. I ended up not being in the mood for it, so I put it down for now. But so far what I read I liked. Might include The Year of the Witching in my spooky TBR for October.

Isn’t It Bromantic? by Lyssa Kay Adams (audiobook) (5 out of 5 stars)

Arsenic and Adobo by Mia P. Manansala (audiobook) (3 out of 5 stars)

Once again I didn’t read as much as I wanted to, but I was able to finish two books that I started in July and one other. Isn’t It Bromantic? was AMAZING! ❤ I loved it so much. I am so stoked we were finally able to get the Russian’s story and it was so gooood. Some Kind of Wonderland was really good and I had fun reading it. I loved all the Alice in Wonderland references and spin on it. I’ll link my review at the end of this post, so you can check it out for more about it. I’ve been seeing Arsenic and Adobo around, so I decided to give it a chance since my library had the audiobook available. It was good, but I didn’t love it. It kept my attention and at times was quite interesting, but I guessed who the killer was pretty fast and wasn’t that surprised. It was neat that they give some recipes from the book at the end!

Wrap Up|| June.

Hey!

2021 is really halfway over? 🤯 June was not one of my best reading months. I didn’t read as much as I hoped I would and all the books that I did read only were only three stars to me. Three stars means I liked them, but I wasn’t blown away or amazed by them. I’ve also been in a pretty bad blogging slump the last couple months as you can see that in May and now June I only posted book hauls and wrap ups. 😦 I’m kind of in this place where I don’t feel inspired (I don’t know if this is the word I really want to use, but I can’t think of another at the moment) and I think I’ve also been kind of unhappy with life in general or maybe not life, but myself. I also feel more anxiety than usual lately and I don’t even know why. I don’t know. *shrug*

I’ve been busy with work, which is nice. I’ve been getting more steady work and I even got my work contract extended for another three months. With that extension comes more stress, anxiety, and obstacles though. I don’t feel like going into why, but it is what it is. I may be busier during July and part of August because I signed up for a photography class that goes for six weeks. Another thing that gives me anxiety (as you can see, I’m just a big ball of anxiety :P), because it’s so out of my comfort zone. BUT I love taking pictures and I want to learn to get better at it, so I signed up anyway. Maybe I need to get out of my comfort zone sometimes, I don’t know. I’ve been hooked on Stardew Valley on Nintendo Switch, so that started to take up a lot of my downtime. It’s been giving me something to do during my blogging and reading slumps. I can sit for hours straight playing and I have been almost every single day for the last week. It’s bringing me joy even if the game can be frustrating at times haha.

When I Was You by Minka Kent – 3 out of 5 stars
The Memory Watcher by Minka Kent – 3 out of 5 stars

I liked both When I Was You and The Memory Watcher, but they didn’t blow me away and honestly they were so predictable. I wasn’t really that shocked, so I was bummed about that. I will say that The Memory Watcher was a lot better than When I Was You though. There was one thing toward the end that did actually surprise me in The Memory Watcher. I like reading psychological thrillers, but it’s rare that I am ever surprised or shocked by them lol. I almost always guess what is going on early on and I’m almost always correct. So, I wasn’t really surprised I gave them both three stars.

Malibu Rising by Taylor Jenkins Reid – 3 out of 5 stars
People We Meet on Vacation by Emily Henry – 3 out of 5 stars

Malibu Rising and People We Meet on Vacation have both seemed really hyped and I had high expectations going into them both. I loved Daisy Jones and I really liked Beach read, so I was bummed I didn’t enjoy these as much as I hoped I would. I don’t have a lot to say about neither one of them, but I did like them and at times they were fun to read. There were times where I was a bit bored as well. Overall, they just didn’t blow me away and my high expectations were let down.

Fifteen Hundred Miles from the Sun by Jonny Garza
Some Kind of Wonderland by Tara St. Pierre

I started both of these books in June, but I didn’t get the chance to finish them before the month ended. I’m listening to the audiobook of Fifteen Hundred Miles from the Sun and so far I love it so much. I haven’t had the chance to really listen to it this past week or so though because I’m doing new things at work that don’t give me an opportunity to listen all day like other things I do at work can. I’m halfway through it though, so hoping I finish it this month. I might listen while I play Stardew Valley sometime lol. Some Kind of Wonderland so far is pretty good and I’m looking forward to seeing what happens. If you couldn’t tell by the cover, it’s kind of like an Alice in Wonderland retelling. I’m not too far into it yet, but hoping to finish it soon and get a review up for it.

Another month where I was bad with posting on my blog, sigh. I’m in a pretty bad blogging slump right now, honestly. I also think I’m in a reading slump too, but more about that in my wrap up. I always buy Nicola Yoon’s books, so I was excited to get Instructions for Dancing and I love how pretty the cover is. I was able to get Be Dazzled (I love the cover so much), Girls with Rebel Souls, and Straight On Till Morning on sale on Prime Day! I am really excited about all of them, especially Girls with Rebel Souls. It’s book three of the Girls with Sharp Sticks series that I have really enjoyed so far.

Tara reached out to me and asked if I would read and review her new book Some Kind of Wonderland. Of course I said yes, because I’ve read her other books in the past and have really liked them. Wrap Up|| May.

Hey!

I hope you had a great May! As for me, it was a bit of a busier month as I mentioned in my book haul post a couple days ago. Work has been a little busier and the husband and I have been doing a lot more walks almost every day in the hopes to try to get healthier and in better shape. Any downtime was spent catching up on TV shows and of course reading! I was definitely a little (okay a lot) missing in the blogosphere. Hoping June will be a better month and I can get back into the swing of blogging. I have two ARCs that I need to read, so hopefully I can get some reviews posted here. We shall see!

Below are a couple pictures from one of the walking trails that the husband and I have been walking a lot. We were able to see so many different birds and little creatures, like bunnies and otters! I really want to do a big picture post or a bunch of smaller ones since I haven’t done one in a while and I have SO MANY pictures to share, especially from all the walks we have been going on this last few weeks. You may see these photos again when I do the nature walk post/s. 🙂 You should follow my personal Instagram account if you want to see more or what I am usually up to when I’m not blogging or posting pictures about books! As for reading, it was another month where I read and listened to a lot of books! This has put me so far ahead in my Goodreads challenge (I think 17 books ahead), which I am so happy about. Toward the end of the year is when I start feeling burned out and then the holidays, and I don’t read as much, so I am glad I am really far ahead. I enjoyed most of the books that I read this month, but I am a little bummed I didn’t read some of the newer releases that I bought. That seems to be a problem for me though haha. I buy books and then they sit on my shelf and I read books from Kindle Unlimited or the library. I finally finished reading The Mask Falling! I started it back in March, but I wasn’t really in the mood to read it yet, so it took me quite a while to finish it. I am so happy I did, because it was so amazing! So many surprises and one that left me almost dead. Now the impatient long wait for book five…ugh. I love the Bone Season series so much so far. I’ve been flying through the Forever Wilde series. I read two books out of order, but then decided to go back and read the rest of the series. I still have four more books to read from the series, but I may take a little break before finishing it. I still have a couple ARCs I really should get to reading instead lol. So far though, I am really enjoying the Forever Wilde series. I don’t really read books like this often, but maybe I should since I seem to fly through them.

I mentioned that I was rereading the first two Miss Peregrine’s Peculiar Children’s books, so I can finally finish the series this year. I listened to the audiobooks for those and it was fun rereading it that way and I definitely forgot so much that happened, so I am glad I listened to them. Hoping to start book three this month. I listened to the audiobooks of the first two Forward Collection stories. They were quick since they are short stories. I don’t know if I’ll read the rest of them, but I wanted to read Summer Frost and Ark, because I like Blake Crouch and Veronica Roth. I really enjoyed Summer Frost, it was pretty creepy! I didn’t really care much for Ark though. I decided to listen to Layla since I have a free trial of Kindle Unlimited and and with Kindle Unlimited, they had the audiobook of Layla. I enjoyed it, but I really didn’t like the ending that much. I thought it could be cooler and spookier, but oh well. It was still pretty interesting and different for Colleen Hoover. I’ve been wanting to read Forget Me Not for a while, so I decided to check the audiobook out from my library. It was actually pretty sad, but I really liked the story.

I am currently reading Burn Baby Burn. It was May TBR jar pick. Since I got sucked into reading some of the Forever Wilde series mentioned above, I didn’t give much time to this one. Hoping to finish it in June though. I’m about a quarter into it and it’s okay so far. Not really a whole lot happening, so I am hoping that it starts picking up soon. Speaking of May TBR jar pick…I think I might skip this challenge altogether, because I didn’t read my April pick yet and I didn’t get through my May one throughout the month. So I think I might just ditch this challenge and read whatever I want and in the mood for instead.

Another month where I ended up getting quite a few books. I’ve been being a little more picky with the physical books that I buy lately, because I’m trying to be cautious with the way that I spend money right now. I’ve been getting more e-books or borrowing from my library. BUT I had to have all of these books, so I couldn’t help myself and treated myself to some books again this month. I saw Listen to Your Heart at a discount bookstore and decided to get it because I’ve liked Kasie West’s books in the past and it was only $2.99 I believe. Luck of the Titanic and Lost in the Never Woods both sounded really good, so I had to have those. I’ve read almost all of Becky Albertalli’s books, so I decided to get her new one, Kate in Waiting. It also sounds really good to me, so I’m excited for it. Hopefully I like it, because sometimes her books are hit or miss for me. I needed Pumpkin to complete my Dumplin’ series and you guys, the rainbow spine is amazing (see picture below). And of course the new volume of Heartstopper was a MUST. I love the graphic novels so much. I plan to reread the first three this month, so I can read volume four.

I did keep my e-book buying to a smaller number again this month. I wasn’t really looking too hard for e-book deals. I couldn’t pass up a new Katie McGarry book or a new K.A. Tucker book. I am really excited about reading both of them. Cursed Objects sounds really cool, so I wanted to get it to read in October as part of my spooky TBR when it comes time to make that. It’s true stories about cursed objects around the world. I’ve been wanting to read 10 Blind Dates for a while now and I saw that it’s perfect for a Christmas themed TBR in December. Thinking ahead for those holiday themed TBRs later in the year. 😛

Wrap Up|| April.

Hey!

April was a pretty good month overall! I was able to get my first COVID vaccination! I’m getting my second one Thursday. I was able to see my family for my younger sister’s birthday and one of my best friends/cousin was able to come stay at my house for a few days. I got back into diamond painting again in April, so that took a good amount of my time but it also allowed me to listen to more audiobooks. I also started to catch up on TV shows I’ve been wanting to watch. I mentioned in my last post that my job ended, BUT they decided to renew me at the last minute so I am still working! 😀

As far as reading goes, I actually did pretty good in April! I managed to read/listen to TEN books! The only not so good that happened in April was that I did not read my April TBR jar pick for the month (UGHHHH), but I think as long as I read it before the end of the year I’m going to count it. 😛 I just wasn’t in the mood for it, but I did read and listen to a bunch of books this month! Chaos on CatNet was so much fun to read! It’s the sequel to Catfishing on CatNet. Feel free to check out my review (linked above) to see more of what I thought about it. I’ve been wanting to read Date Me, Bryson Keller for like a year now and finally decided to read in. I flew through it because it was SO GOOD and hard to put down. I loved it so much, which as you can see, I gave it five stars! Hudson’s Luck was a random book I decided to read because it sounded interesting and I really liked it. It was cute and I flew through it.

I had high hopes for Where Dreams Descend, but sadly I was very disappointed. You can check out my review (linked above) for more about that. I finally got around to reading Night of the Dragon! Of course I loved it so much. It had been a LONG time since I cried my eyes out while reading a book, but holy crap did Night of the Dragon make me cry SO MUCH. I finished the audiobook in the car on the way to visit my family, so you can confirm with the husband on how much I cried haha. 😛 I also finally read One of Us Is Next. It was really good and I liked it a lot, but I do think the first book was a little better. I still had fun reading it and it kept me guessing.

The Cousins by Karen M. McManus – 3 out of 5 stars
Spoiler Alert by Olivia Dad – 4 out of 5 stars
Every Heart a Doorway by Seanan McGuire – 2 out of 5 stars
The Kiss Quotient by Helen Hoang – 3 out of 5 stars

I liked The Cousins, but I felt like something was missing from it. I wasn’t that shocked by anything and some of it was a bit boring to me. Spoiler Alert was SO CUTE! I really enjoyed it, but I wasn’t really a fan of the fanfic stuff. Everything else about the book was cute and fun though. I was really looking forward to Every Heart a Doorway, but honestly I’m just like “WTF” did I read? It was weird, kind of boring, and I still don’t understand it. *shrug* And because April seems like the month of finally reading books that I’ve been wanting to….I finally read The Kiss Quotient! I know it was REALLY hyped when it came out. As for me, I liked it, but I think it was a little too much for me in sometimes and I think maybe listening to the audiobook wasn’t the best route for this one lol. I’m glad I finally read it though.

I was really hoping to finish The Mask Falling by the end of April, but sadly I didn’t get the chance to since I was reading other books as well. DEFINITELY in May though. I am currently halfway through it and really enjoying it. It’s just really slow to start, because there’s so much information and things happening. I really love this series though, so I’m okay with reading it slow and taking it all in. I don’t want to miss a single thing! I am also listening to the audiobook of Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children. I’ve read the first two books in this series back in 2014. I really liked the first two books a lot and I want to FINALLY finish the series this year. It’s been so long since I’ve read the first two books, so I decided to listen to those two on audiobook before starting the rest of the series.

I didn’t have a chance to take pictures of my own books that I bought, so I used the cover pictures off Goodreads. I haven’t done a Book Outlet in like two years, so I finally decided to do it because I really wanted to Journals. I’ve been wanting to read it for so long now and it was only $8 there versus $22 had I bought it on Amazon. I decided to add some more books to my order, because why not? 😛 I got all of these books on Book Outlet aside from Where the Road Leads Us. That was a pre-order of mine, because I loved Robin’s other book My Kind of Crazy so much. I have an ARC of Girls with Razor Hearts, but I wanted the hardcover copy because I am really enjoying the book series so far. I still need to buy the third book though, so hopefully I’ll do that soon!

I own pretty much every Morgan Matson book, but haven’t read a single one yet haha. I probably shouldn’t have gotten Save the Date because of that, but whatever *shrug*. She wrote a book series under the name “Katie Finn” that I absolutely LOVED so much when I read it years ago, so that is why I always buy her books in the hopes that one day I will finally read them. 😛 I really loved Katie McGarry’s “Thunder Road” series, so I always buy her books. I still need to read all her other books and hopefully soon since I own them all. I guess it’s kind of like the Morgan Matson situation haha. Schzio has been on my wishlist for the longest time now and Bunny sounded good. I meant to read Bunny last year (or could have been early this year) when I checked it out at my library and never did, so maybe now that I own it I finally will.

I really liked Bird Box and I am excited to read the sequel Malorie! I had a discount on Amazon and was able to get it for $4.99! Love Always, Wild sounded interesting to me, so I got that one and The Next Wife I was able to get for free with Amazon First Reads. I tried to stay away from many e-books this month since I always get so many and just never really get around to reading them, sigh. I am sure a lot of bookish people can relate to that though. It’s easy to buy them and forget them because you don’t see them. Although, I see the books on my bookshelves every single day and yet I get books from my library still LOL. #bookishproblems haha 😛

I should have my April wrap up on Monday. I’m still working on it and hope to maybe finish one more book today to add to it, we shall see! I plan to blog hop and catch up on replying to comments then too. I got busy with things at work, so I didn’t have much down time over the last couple of weeks. Time I did have to myself I spent it reading or just relaxing with some of my favorite TV shows. The contract for my job ends today, so I am sadly out of work again after today and I’ll have more down time until I can find another job. So, hopefully that means I’ll be around on the blog more soon. Feel free to link me to any of your posts you think I should check out! Do Book Covers Affect Whether I Read a Book?

Hey!

The Book Blogger Hop is hosted by Ramblings of a Coffee Addicted Writer. Each week the hop will start on a Friday and end the following Thursday. There will be a weekly prompt featuring a book related question. Check out their blog for all the weekly prompts. This week’s prompt is “does the cover of a book affect whether you are more willing to read it?”

I would have to say yes on whether I am more willing to read a book because of the book cover. If a book cover jumps out at me, then I am usually more willing to read the book description to see if it would be something that I may like or be interested in. I know there’s that saying “don’t judge a book by its cover”, but more times than not I will check out a book if the cover draws me in. I am probably missing out on so many amazing books by doing this, but I am so guilty of it. There are some exceptions to this though, like if someone recommends a book to me, if it’s a favorite author of mine, or I see a book getting a lot of hype; then I’ll check those out. I am a sucker for a pretty book cover, so nine out of ten times I will choose that prettier one. That sounds so bad, I know. But I am who I am. 😛 And with all of that being said, I am going to share three books where I loved the book cover and I decided to read it, but it ended up not being that great. And three books where I didn’t really like the cover, but I ended up loving the story.

I received an ARC of Chaos on CatNet from the publisher via Netgalley in exchange for an honest review. It will be published on April 27, 2021.

Chaos on CatNet is the sequel to Catfishing on CatNet, which I enjoyed so much! As for the sequel, I thought it was SO good. I had so much fun reading it as I did with book one. In book one I really loved all the friendships and I was happy to see them continue in book two with some new characters and friendships introduced. It was fast-paced and so many different things happening. It kept me guessing and even a little spooky vibe to it because I feel like it could be something that could happen today or in the near future with all those hackers out there! I don’t want to go into too many details in this review, because I don’t want to spoil the first book or anything that happens in this one either. If you like near future sci-fi, then I highly recommend checking out the first book and of course this one!

Bookstagram 2020|| Part Two.

Hey!

I’ve had a bookstagram for quite a few years now. It’s “sociallyawkwardbookworm” if you’re interested! There were some years where I was REALLY active and posting almost daily. Then I started to become less active and only posting maybe once a week or once a month. I wanted to be more active in 2020, but that ended up not happening. And even now in this new year I’ve only posted twice! For this blog post though, I thought it would be fun to post all the pictures that I uploaded to my bookstagram account in 2020! I had a total of 21 posts, but some of those posts contained more than one picture. Looking through my pictures kind of makes me want to get back into bookstagram, but honestly, bookstagram can be a lot of work! Coming up with cool photo ideas, sticking to themes, finding cool props, and writing captions (which I think is SO HARD sometimes). I’ve also been buying books less than I was before, so not having brand new books to showcase plays a part in that as well. Sigh. I am including the captions that I posted with them. I’ll put a link at the end of this post with part one, but for today here is part two!

Again I struggled with finding a theme that I really wanted to stick to, so my pictures were just totally random. For the second half of the year, it looks like October was my best month for posting. Bookstagram 2020|| Part One.

Hey!

I’ve had a bookstagram for quite a few years now. It’s “sociallyawkwardbookworm” if you’re interested! There were some years where I was REALLY active and posting almost daily. Then I started to become less active and only posting maybe once a week or once a month. I wanted to be more active in 2020, but that ended up not happening. And even now in this new year I’ve only posted twice so far! For this blog post though, I thought it would be fun to post all the pictures that I uploaded to my bookstagram account in 2020. Looking through my pictures kind of makes me want to get back into bookstagram, but honestly, it can be a lot of work! Coming up with cool photo ideas, sticking to themes, finding cool props, and writing captions (which I think is SO HARD sometimes). I’ve also been buying books less than I was before, so not having brand new books to show off plays a part in that as well. Sigh. Caption: rearranged my bookcases a little bit after unhauling 50+ books. the left two bookcases are paperbacks & arcs. the next two are hardcovers. the last one the hardcovers continue and it also has my harry potter books at the top. the bottom shelf is unopened funko pops and the shelf above that is just miscellaneous books. the baby yoda (the child) picture is a painting that i did in an art class, but it’s only sitting there for now. i’ll eventually be hanging it on my wall. the very top of all my shelves are some of my favorite unopened funko pops. i’m still unsure if i’m going to display my opened funko pops on my shelves (there’s a lot) or find a new place for them. i don’t really want my bookshelves to look too cluttered, lol. • tag me in your shelfie pictures, so i can check them out! 📖🖤

After going through my pictures, it looks like March was my best month for posting in 2020. It went downhill after my April pictures. I also couldn’t really stick to a theme. I kept trying a bunch of things to see what would stick for me. I am back with another Top Ten Tuesday. I am shocked, because it’s usually months between my next one haha. 😛 I thought the topic for this week sounded fun though and I couldn’t pass it up! I decided to sort my Goodreads “read” shelf by rating and that is how I determined which books I will gladly throw into the ocean. The books on my list today are ones that I gave one star or two stars. They are books that I found mostly boring and that I couldn’t connect with the story or the characters. They are books that didn’t grab (or hold) my attention as much as I had hoped they would. Most of these I had such high hopes for and was so let down. I feel like I’m on a roll with blogging this first week of April. I’ve already had three (this one makes the third) posts this month and I actually have two more to go up before the week ends! Although, I am considering saving them for next week, so I have something to post then. Hmm. I wish all weeks were as good as this one has been with posting lol. Will I Ever Get Tired of Blogging?

I have been trying to think of new blogging content to post on my blog and have been drawing blanks. I even stayed up until almost 5am one night just researching and looking for ideas! The search is still on-going, but I did stumble upon a weekly meme that looked fun and I wanted to try on on my blog. It’s called “Book Blogger Hop“. The Book Blogger Hop is hosted by Ramblings of a Coffee Addicted Writer. Each week the hop will start on a Friday and end the following Thursday. There will be a weekly prompt featuring a book related question. Check out their blog for all the weekly prompts. This week’s prompt as you can see in the subject of my post is “do you think you will ever get tired of blogging?”

It is actually fitting that I started participating in this meme and the topic question is if I think I’ll ever get tired of blogging. This has been something I’ve been thinking about a lot over the last 2.5 years. I first started this blog in January 2015. That was SIX years ago! My first blog post was January 17, 2015! You can check that out here. It was a little bit of an intro post about what I wanted for my blog and what I was going to post about. The main focus was of course on books. I also wanted to post about music and pictures that I take. I think I stuck to that quite a bit over the years with the main focus and majority of my content being book related. When I first made that post, I didn’t really believe this blog would become anything. Because I tried many, many times to blog in the past about other things and I’ve always just quit shortly after. It’s hard to believe that I am still here after six years!

I’ve experienced so many new things because of this blog. I met so many cool people and friends as well! Friends I still have today since day one! I was able to travel to California because of this blog, I was able to go to BookCon in NYC, and meet some of my blogger friends there. I discovered SO MANY new books and built a pretty big book collection because of this blog. I’ve been able to connect with book publishers and meet some of my favorite authors too! Having my blog opened my eyes to so many new things and experiences, which I am SO happy about. Today I almost have 2000 followers, which to me is pretty huge considering I really didn’t think I would have many when I first started or that I would still even be here today. I am so grateful for everything that has happened because I decided to try blogging one more time.

As of right now, I don’t think I would ever get tired of blogging. I actually really love blogging! BUT…there have been quite a few times over the last 2.5 years where I thought about quitting. I’ve even started to blog a lot less than I used to. I wouldn’t say I’ve thought about quitting because I am tired of it though. It’s just most of the time lately I’ve been feeling so uninspired and trying to figure out new content to post has been really difficult. If I knew the kind of posts I wanted to make, I would probably be blogging almost daily. My struggle over the last couple years has been content. I feel like I am always posting the same things over and over again. I’m tired of posting the same things again and again, so it makes me believe that maybe you are tired of seeing the same type of posts again and again. If I had a some fresh ideas of what to post, I really would be around here SO MUCH again. I actually do miss being here more.

I think I need to challenge myself a little more to figure out what I want to do or where else I want to take my blog. As I first mentioned at the start of this post, I stayed up so late researching and trying to figure out new ideas for posts. I am hoping to continue to do that and hopefully get a spark of inspiration again! I really don’t think I will ever get tired of blogging. I love writing about books or things that interest me. I love sharing the pictures that I take and the adventures I go on. By the way, I need to do that more! I love reading your posts and connecting with you. I love the blogosphere so much. I think I will always be here in some way, shape, or form. You’re stuck with me! 😛 I do get tired of not knowing what to post though and that can be so frustrating. That’s what makes me want to quit some days or makes me not be around as much as I used to. I have been in a MAJOR blogging slump for at least two years. I want out of my blogging slump. I just need to figure out how to get out and that’s the hard part, sigh.

With that being said, please feel free to let me know what you want to see from me. Any post ideas? Bookshelf tour? Bookmark collection? Funko Pop collection? Q&A? It doesn’t even have to be book related, whatever you want to see or what you want me to talk about. 🙂 Do you think you would ever get tired of blogging? Choi’s books, so of course I had to do the same with Yolk. And same goes for Leigh Bardugo! I’m a little disappointed in the book cover for Rule of Wolves though. I thought it would be glossy and shiny like King of Scars, but it’s not. I really love the Market of Monsters series, so I had to buy a copy of the third book, When Villains Rise. I can’t wait to read it soon! I decided to buy Have You Seen This Person? because I love true crime and I don’t read enough of it. I’m always watching TV shows/documentaries and listening to podcasts, so I want to get more into reading true crime too and this one sounds interesting.

Another month of being super picky with the e-books that I buy, which honestly is a good thing. I already have so many I still need to read. 😛 Connected sounded like something I would like. I read Frankly in Love and really enjoyed it, so I figured I would give Super Fake Love Song a try too. Incendiary has been on my Goodreads TBR for a while, so I was happy to finally see it on sale. Killer Triggers, because JOE KENDA! I already read it and really liked it. Lies We Bury was my Amazon Prime First Reads choice for the month. I picked it because it sounded interesting. I’m stoked to read these books, aside from Killer Triggers since I already read it.

Hey!

I can’t believe it’s been almost a year since I last did a Top Ten Tuesday list! I thought I would participate this week, because while I am super bad at sticking to TBRs, I do have some priority books that I want to get to as soon as possible! I’ve been trying to get to those first before anything else and these are the ones that I have left on my priority list. I am calling this my Spring TBR since I am prioritizing these books and plan (maybe hope is a better word :P) to read them within the next few months. If you’ve been reading my blog this year, then you’d know that this year I am trying to focus more on older books that I’ve had on my shelf for a while and the ARCs I never got around to reading last year. So, that is where most of this Spring TBR is coming from. Five books on this list are ARCs, two are from my old TBR jar (each month I am trying to read one book that I pick from my old TBR jar), and the others are books that I’ve really wanted to read and series I’ve wanted to finish. I am going to do some blog hopping this week to catch up with you and reply to comments. I haven’t really been around too much since I am going through this reading slump. I’ve also been addicted to watching baking competition shows on Discovery+ ever since getting into this reading slump. So, I spend a lot of my time doing that when I get off work. I am hoping to get out of this slump soon…..fingers crossed! I had such a great reading month in February, so I am bummed that the first half of March isn’t going so well for me with that! Hopefully the second half of the month will be better. We shall see!

Hey!

It’s March already!? And….it’s my birthday today! 🙂 Time seems to be flying by so far this year. As for February goes though, I had a really good reading month! I read a few books myself and listened to quite a few audiobooks. In February I was working my way through my Netgalley shelf and was able to knock three books off there and I only have three left to read. A lot of them were books where the release date had already passed, so it was nice to finally get those older ones read and reviewed. I did end DNF one of them though, so there’s no review for that one. I have two more older ones to read and then my last one is a release for April. I am hoping to get those last few books cleared from Netgalley between now and the end of April. Another cool thing is I am actually six books ahead on my Goodreads challenge! I think most of last year I was forever behind on my challenge each month. It feels good to actually be ahead and by so much! Helps to be less stressed about that goal.

I really like Katie Cotugno’s books, so I am glad I finally read You Sat It First. It was sad and cute all at the same time. I loved the characters and friendships. The Dawn Chorus was a really great bridge into the fourth book in The Bone Season series. I loved it so much and I am really looking forward to reading the fourth book this month. I’ve been wanting to read Emmy & Oliver for YEARS….like five or six years? The year it was released it was actually my most anticipated book! I pulled it from my TBR jar as my February TBR jar pick and I am so happy that I did. I really enjoyed reading it. I completely forgot what it was about and didn’t read the book description before actually starting it, so it was mostly a surprise for me. A good surprise! It had some pretty sad moments, but overall it was such a great story!

The Song Rising (The Bone Season series) and Not Even Bones (Market of Monsters series) were both rereads for me. I wanted to reread them, so I could continue with the both series. It was so great getting back into them and I am excited about reading the new books in both series. Only Ashes Remains is the second book in the Market of Monsters series and it did not disappoint. It’s a dark and twisted series and it’s so fun to read! Hoping to read the last book this month and get my review up for that. It’s one of the books on my Netgalley shelf that I’m trying to clear off. And speaking of clearing my Netgalley shelf, I finally got around to checking out Admissions and What Big Teeth. I liked Admissions, but it didn’t blow me away like I had hoped it would. I still recommend checking it out though. I was really disappointed with What Big Teeth, sadly. I had really high hopes for it, but it ended up not being for me. 😦 Feel free to check out my reviews linked above for more about them!

These are the books that I tried to read in the month of February, but ended up not being for me so I stopped.

Surrender Your Sons by Adam Sass

Surrender Your Sons was the ARC that I ended up DNF. I think I read about 30% of it, but I just couldn’t finish it. I think that a lot of people would like reading it, but it just wasn’t for me. It was a really difficult topic to read about and I found myself struggling to read it because of that. I didn’t stop because it was a bad book or anything like that, it was just too hard for me to read and it wasn’t exactly what I expected it was going to be. I would still recommend checking it out, I think it’s a really important topic.

Happy March! 🙂 I am here to share my February book haul today. It’s actually a pretty small haul this time. I think I am getting a little more pickier with what I buy these days. Not that that’s a bad thing though, considering I have like 700+ unread books lol. YIKES! I’m working on reading them. One day, one day. 😛 Anyway, shall I get into February book haul? I went to a used bookstore in my area and left with The Five Stages of Andrew Brawley, which I have been wanting to read for a while now! I also got Have You Seen Luis Velez? from that same bookstore that trip as well. I read a book by Catherine Ryan Hyde years ago and loved it, so I am excited to check out more of her books. My birthday is on Wednesday (March 3) and my younger sister bought me Unbirthday. It’s an Alice in Wonderland retelling and I love Alice in Wonderland, so I am excited about it! I’ve been really wanting to check out all of the books in the books in this A Twisted Tale series.

Small e-book haul this month. There were a ton that I did want to get, but I tried to limit myself as much as possible. The Wedding Game was free with Amazon First Reads. I mentioned wanting to check out all of the books in the A Twisted Tale series and I saw that So This Is Love was on sale, so I got that. I really loved Elizabeth Lim’s series The Blood of Stars (Spin the Dawn), so I am excited to see her take on Cinderella! I’ve been wanting to read the Six Stories series for a while now and I keep buying all of the books when I see them on sale LOL, so that’s why I got Deity. Maybe I’ll finally start it this year? And same goes for The Conference of the Birds. I read the first two books in the Miss Peregrine’s series years ago and I enjoyed them so much, but for whatever reason I never continued with it! I always buy all the e-books when I catch them on sale, because I want to finally finish this series eventually and maybe that will finally be this year. I’ll definitely have to reread the first two books though lol. I started the series in e-book format, so I just continue to buy them in that format.

Earlier in the post I mentioned my ridiculous amount of unread books and how I was working on reading them. Well, I decided to redo my TBR jar. It took me FOREVER to finish it because I had to cut and fold 700+ little pieces of paper haha. I’m glad I went with printing, because writing 700+ books, plus cutting & folding would have killed me. 😛 Future books I’ll have to write in, but if I stay on top doing that monthly, then it won’t be so bad!

I am pretty bad with TBR jars, but if anything, it’s a nice little decoration for my bookshelf. I am really hoping to use it as much as possible though. I am hoping that it helps me get to my older books that have been sitting on my bookshelves/Kindle for so long now. So far, I’ve been doing pretty good with choosing one book a month like I have for one of my 2021 reading goals. We’ll see what happens the rest of the year though. 😛

I received an ARC of What Big Teeth from the publisher via Netgalley in exchange for an honest review. It was published on February 2nd.

I really wanted to love What Big Teeth, but sadly it wasn’t for me. At the start I was really into it and was enjoying my time reading it, but then it started to get a little confusing and a little too weird for me. Some things were just not making sense to me. I feel like some things were not explained enough. I’m not really sure what I think about any of the characters. It ended up being hard to connect with them. I did really like the family aspect to the story though. I was really bummed out that I struggled a bit with wanting to finish the book, because at the beginning it was really interesting and I liked it. In the end it was only just an okay read for me. I would still recommend it though. I think others will really enjoy it, but it just wasn’t for me.

I decided to combined my two star, one star, and DNF books into one post because there are not too many of those to share. I think combined there are eight books. The two-star rating are books that I thought were just “okay”. They didn’t blow me away, there wasn’t a lot that I liked about it, I couldn’t connect with characters, and was missing a lot to make me like/love them. I had high hopes for Allegedly, Infinity Son, and Where the Crawdads Sing, so I am bummed that I didn’t like them as much as I thought and hoped I would. I’m a Therapist… was just a random book and I honestly didn’t really have high expectations for it. I was just looking for something quick to read and that was that.

Perfect Little Children by Sophie Hannah

The one-star rating means I didn’t like it. It felt like nothing really happened in Perfect Little Children and the main character annoyed me so much. The shock factor just wasn’t there for me either. The entire time I was hoping something would happen and by the time something did happen, I was already over the story, so I didn’t care all that much.

In previous years I didn’t really keep track of the books that I decided not to finish. I decided I would keep track in 2020 and these are the books that were DNF for me. I found The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes and An Anonymous Girl to be so boring. I think I got through half of both books and just couldn’t read them anymore. As for Followers, I had a really difficult time with it. I didn’t like the way that it was written and it was more confusing than anything. I got about 20% into it before calling it quits.

I received an ARC of Admission from the publisher via Netgalley in exchange for an honest review. It was published in December 2020.

I really like Julie Buxbaum’s books, so I was excited to read her new book Admission. While it was not my favorite of her books, I did like the story and it was pretty interesting. It was pretty relevant to what we recently saw in the news about the celebrities and wealthy people that got caught paying their children’s way into college. You kind of got a closer/inside glimpse into what we all read about and seen in the news regarding this same situation that the book is based off of.

I liked the topic that Admission was based off of and it was interesting getting a deeper look into it, but aside from that I had trouble really connecting to any of the characters in the story. Not many of them were likeable to me aside from maybe Isla. I didn’t like that some of the characters weren’t treated very nicely even though they were friends; example being the way that Chloe sometimes treated Shola. There was lots of family drama that came along with the college admissions scandal, but one of the things I really like about it was that it brought Chloe and Isla closer together and I ended up liking their sisterly bond in the end. The story did feel like something was missing or like more could have been done with it.

Overall though, while it wasn’t my favorite from Julie, I did like the story and I would still recommend it, because it’s an interesting topic and there’s some important messages as well.

Hey!

January flew by! It was a mostly busy month for me as work started it get a lot busier. With my new job I am able to listen to more audiobooks again, which is nice though! I didn’t blog as much as I wanted to, but I haven’t really sat down to figure out how I want to go about things for this new year. I should really do that soon. Life has been pretty okay; except I found out my immediate family (mom, older sister, niece, nephew, and aunt) has Covid, so that sucks. My older sister got it first and since they all live in the same house, everyone got it. I’m just crossing my fingers that they are not bad cases and that they’ll all be okay.

As far as reading goes, I was able to read and listen to six books! Three that I read myself and three that were audiobooks. I also started a seventh book, but unfortunately wasn’t able to finish it before the month ended. It feels good being two books ahead of schedule on Goodreads. I didn’t write any reviews in January, so that was a bummer. One of my goals for this year was to write more reviews, and *maybe* write at least 2-3 reviews a month, oops. The 2-3 reviews a month number was a loose goal though, so I’m not beating myself up over it or anything.

Kent State by Deborah Wiles – 3 out of 5 stars.
In December I was reading Mind the Gap, Dash & Lily and the character Dash mentioned Kent State and it sounded interesting from the way he talked about it, so I really wanted to check it out. My library had it available, so that was the first book that I read this year! It was such a heartbreaking story. I flew through it because I couldn’t put it down and it’s also written in verse, so that made it a pretty quick read as well.

Forever Wild by K.A. Tucker – 5 out of 5 stars.
I HAD to read Forever Wild as soon as possible and since I didn’t get to it in December, I made sure to read it in January. It was so amazing! It was everything I hoped it would be and more. I need more!! I believe there is a book three coming! Forever Wild was book “2.5”. I highly recommend checking out the series if you haven’t already; the first book is The Simple Wild.

#VERYFAT #VERYBRAVE by Nicole Byer – 3 out of 5 stars.
I really love Nicole Byer, so I wanted to check out her book #VERYFAT #VERYBRAVE. My library had it available, so I decided to read it. I really liked what she had to say and her message, but the book seemed a little too repetitive and as much as I loved all the pictures that she included of herself, I feel like it was a little excessive with the amount of pictures. It was still a good book though and I’ll forever love Nicole Byer.

All the Bright Places by Jennifer Niven – 4 out of 5 stars.
All the Bright Places was my pick from my old TBR jar that I haven’t updated since 2017. One of my goals for the year is to read at least one book a month from that TBR jar and this was January. I started off reading it on my own, but then I decided to check out the audiobook from my library instead since it was available. I really liked the book, but it was so heartbreaking and sad. I am glad I finally read it though! I’ve been wanting to for so long. I think I actually bought the book in 2015!

The Bone Season by Samantha Shannon – 5 out of 5 stars.
The Mime Order by Samantha Shannon – 5 out of 5 stars.
I mentioned in my book haul post how I am doing an audiobook reread of the first three books in The Bone Season series to prepare for hopefully reading the fourth book soon that just came out in January. I listened to the first two books and they were just as amazing as when I first read them years ago. This series forever has my heart and I can’t wait to read the new fourth book as soon as possible! As I am typing this blog post, I am listening to book three.

You Say It First by Katie Cotugno

I wanted to finished You Say It First by the end of January, but the last one and a half to two weeks of the month I wasn’t really reading as much. Hopefully this month I will get this one finished. So far, it’s okay. I don’t really have that much to say about it. I think I’m only about 15% into it though, so not very far into it yet. I have a couple ARCs I am hoping to get to this month, so I can get those reviews up and then whatever else I read is up in the air. We’ll see what happens!

Today, I am going to blog hop during my break at work and also later when I get off work. I am excited to check out what you’ve been up to and what you’ve been reading. I want to try to come up with some kind of schedule, so I am doing this at least once or twice a week. I have a lot of things I want to do, I just have to get them on paper and figure out a way to do it. Hopefully I’ll figure all of that out soon! I mentioned my old TBR jar earlier in this post and I am thinking about doing another one, but with all of my books in it. I stopped updating my old one sometime in 2017, so it would be nice to have a TBR jar to choose from with other older books on my shelves as well. We’ll see what happens with that. It’s a lot of work making one, unless I print off the books instead of writing them out like I’ve done in the past. Hmm.

Some Kind of Happiness was kind of like an impulse cover buy? I was scrolling through Pinterest as I usually do when I’m bored and want to pin all the things I will probably never do (haha) and I came across this book. I saw the cover and fell in love, so I decided to look it up on Goodreads to see what it was about. It sounded SO good and I had to have it. The Mask Falling is FINALLY here!! If you didn’t know, I LOVE The Bone Season series, so I had to of course buy the fourth book! I am currently rereading (audiobook reread this time around) the entire series, because it has been FOUR YEARS since the third book was released, so it’s been quite a while. I am having a lot of fun rereading the books though and I can’t wait to dive into this one once I finish. I have SO much love for this series. ❤

How I managed to only get a couple e-books is beyond me, haha. I’ve been wanting to read more of K.A. Tucker’s books after reading The Simple Wild series, so I decided to get Until It Fades because it was on sale for I think $2.99. I’ve also been wanting to read The Tattooist of Auschwitz for a while now, so I decided to get that one too as it was on sale as well.

And just because my book haul is so small, I decided to show you my little bookmark haul as well! I couldn’t resist getting these three bookmarks this month. The crime scene tape and mushroom bookmarks are from Rustic Pages Co on Etsy and the Bernie meme one is from The Bookables on Etsy. I have quite a few bookmarks from both of these shops. I really love their Etsy shops.

If you want to see my bookmark collection, let me know! I have hundreds of them, so maybe I can do a post (or a series of posts) about them and where I got them from. I’ve been collecting them since I started this blog, which was six years ago! I don’t buy them as much as I used to, but I do get some from time to time.

My January wrap up post is coming soon, as well as my last post for my star ratings of the books I read in 2020. I got super distracted this weekend with doing house things that I didn’t really have time to work on those posts or blog hop, unfortunately; but I will this week for sure! I think I might come up with a set schedule for when I do blog things, that way it’s all worked out and I make time for my blog and you! ❤

These are all books that I liked, but wasn’t blown away by. A lot of these I had really high expectations, but was let down in more ways than one, so they couldn’t get four stars or higher. I still liked them and had fun reading most of them.

I’m thinking I may combined my 2 stars, 1 star, and DNF books into one post coming up soon, because there wasn’t many of each of those. Hopefully I’ll work on that this week and get that posted by Friday (if not sooner). I hope you are all doing well! I plan to blog hop and reply to comments at some point this week as well. 🙂

I may not have had very many five stars in 2020, but I did have a lot of four stars as you can see! To me four stars means that I really liked it, but there was a little something missing or it didn’t feel “amazing” to me and because of that I couldn’t give them five stars. I still REALLY enjoyed these books and I’m looking forward to reading more books by these authors.
