WWW Wednesday #44.

WWW Wednesday is a weekly MEME hosted by Taking on a World of Words. Simply answer the following questions. 🙂

The three Ws are:
What are you currently reading?
What did you recently finish reading?
What do you think you’ll read next?

*Goodreads linked below.

It’s been quite awhile since I’ve done one of these WWW posts. I think my last post of this kind of back toward the end of August, oops. 😛 I have been doing a lot better as far as reading goes. I find myself wanting to read more than I have been lately, which is good. I am going to just jump right into the books that I’ve been reading and listening to the last week or so.

Currently Reading:

The End of Oz by Danielle Paige

I am finally reading The End of Oz! I am about 30% into it right now and am really enjoying it. This series has been so much fun to read. I think this is the last book in the series though and I’ll be sad to see it end!

Recently Finished:

Enclave, Outpost, Horde by Ann Aguirre
The Sword of Summer by Rick Riordan

I listened to the audiobooks for Enclave, Outpost, and Horde. It was a reread for me though, because the new book Vanguard was just released this year and I really needed a refresher of this series. I first read them in 2012/2013. It’s hands down one of my favorite series EVER. This series is everything! I was so stoked to get back into it again and relive some of my favorite characters. I can’t wait to read Vanguard, which I am hoping will be this month or next month. 😀 I also finished The Sword of Summer, which was so freaking good! Rick Riordan never disappoints with his book. His characters are always the best, so funny, and so much fun to read. I can’t wait to get my hands on the next books in the series.

Reading Next:

The Whole Thing Together by Ann Brashares
Being Fishkill by Ruth Lehrer
Long Way Down by Jason Reynolds

I am not entirely sure what I am going to read next, but it will most likely be one of these three. The Whole Thing Together is due back to the library in a week, so I may attempt that one. I still need to read my ARC of Being Fishkill, so I want to get to that soon and I’ve heard so many good things about Long Way Down and I am STOKED to have it and can’t wait to read it. Hopefully I can get around to reading all of these before the month ends.

What are you currently reading? Recently finished? Reading next? Have you read any of these books? Let me know and link me to your posts if you have one!

I have another photo a day post coming soon. I skipped a couple days  of pictures (oops), so I’ve been waiting until I got three or four more since I skipped. Maybe tomorrow or Friday I’ll have that post.

Blog Changes.

I hope you have a great day.

Blog Changes.

I’ve been thinking a lot about blogging, the blogosphere, and especially my blog and I decided to make some changes and I really hope you stick around for them! Continue reading this post to learn more about it.

I had originally created a blog called “still pixels” for my photography and I have an Instagram account to go along with it as well. I like everything I did over there for the two weeks I was doing it, but I think juggling two blogs is difficult; especially when I neglect this one A LOT over the last year. With a new year coming I want to make some changes to the content on this blog.

With that being said, I am going to slowly make this blog be about all the things I like and not only books. It’ll also be where I talk about random things happening in my life. A little journal (ish) in a way. Also, kind of like how I was doing with my random picture posts that I’ve done over the last couple years, but there will be more of it; not just once in awhile.

I’m going to migrate some of the things that I posted on Still Pixels over to this blog as well, because I liked the content that I made and posted there; like the headers that I made from the pictures that I took. I’m not going to delete Still Pixels, because in the future I may want to try again with that blog. I’ll be leaving it active, but not updating it (for now). I’m leaving my Instagram account for Still Pixels (stillpixels_) active too, but not updating that right now either. I put that account to private for now.

I will still be updating about books here, but books may not necessarily be my main focus. I don’t plan to rename this blog or anything, because “Socially Awkward Bookworm” still portrays who I am as a person. I am still (and forever) socially awkward and I am still (and forever) a bookworm. There’s more to me than just books though, so I want to talk about and share those things too. I love blogging, but sometimes not always about books and I have no idea where else to put the things in my head.

I think that’s another reason why I’ve been pretty MIA in the blogosphere over the last year and a half. I don’t always want to blog about books, but this blog has always been centered around books and I felt like maybe it would have been wrong in some way to post other things besides book related things and the casual picture update. So I’ve slowly stepped away, I guess you can say. I don’t want to do that though, because I love having a place to put my thoughts and my pictures (other than Instagram).

BUT! With a new year approaching rather quickly, I decided I am going to embrace it and post whatever I want to post about; whether that be books, music, tv shows, traveling, photography, or anything else happening in my life. This will be a space for all of that and more. In life if things aren’t working out for you anymore, you change it, or leave it behind. I don’t want to do anything in life that isn’t going to make me happy.

“I’m so focused on my own energy right now and people misinterpret that. I’m not being distant. I’m just gravitating to the vibes that suit me.”

I want to live a life where I am happy with all of my choices and what I am doing and I want my blog to reflect that too. I want to live my life as stress free as humanly possible and if that means having to let some things or people go, then so be it. Life is too short to be anything other than happy and who you want to be. Life is too short to not have the things you want and do the things that you want to do. I’m all about good vibes and that’s the way I want to live my life always.

“I’m learning to be more calm and patient these days. Just can’t afford to let anything or anyone steal my happiness.”

“The more in harmony you are with the flow of your own existence, the more magical life becomes.”

There will still be TONS of talk about books too; no one will ever be able to take away my love for books and the need to talk about them. You’ll just get to see more into my life as well and that could be pretty fun. 🙂

Recap|| October.

So sad it’s the last day of October! It’s Halloween though, so that’s always fun. I had this BIG Halloween TBR that I didn’t get to as much as I wanted. I read a few books from the list, but not many at all. I haven’t been reading as much as usual these days, which is a little bit of why I haven’t been around here as much. I did complete my Goodreads reading challenge this month, so that’s cool!

Now onto my recap of what I read in October. You can find a full list of these books and the other books I read this year over here. All will be linked to Goodreads below and I will also link to individual blog posts for them if I did a review.

Physically Read Books:
These are the books that I read by myself (not audiobooks) throughout the month of October.

I actually managed to finish reading The Art of Starving in September, but I had already posted my recap post before I finished it, because I didn’t think I would have it finished before October started. I am including it in this post as well.

The Art of Starving by Sam J. Miller – 3 out of 5 stars.
The Art of Starving was an okay book, but not completely memorable. I’m actually having a hard time even writing something about it because I don’t remember too much about it. The first half of the book was great, but then by the second half I was bored with it most of the time.

They Both Die at the End by Adam Silvera – 4 out of 5 stars.
I enjoyed They Both Die at the End so much. Adam Silvera always knows how to leave me a crying mess at the end though, haha. I loved Mateo and Rufus so much. I thought it was so cool that there are Instagram accounts that go along with the story. It was cool being able to see pictures of what Mateo and Rufus did.

My Best Friend’s Exorcism by Grady Hendrix – 4 out of 5 stars.
My Best Friend’s Exorcism was really good and pretty creepy at times. I had a lot of fun reading it and I loved the way that it ended. It was definitely perfect for this month. I’m glad I finally got around to reading it.

The Outside by Laura Bickle – 5 out of 5 stars.
Okay, so I read the first book in this duology (The Hallowed Ones) in 2015 I believe. I absolutely loved that book so much and I don’t know why it took me so long to finally read The Outside. I am so glad that I finally read it, because it was just as great as the first book. This duology is definitely on my list of favorite books. I don’t know if you’ve read Enclave by Ann Aguirre, but at times it reminded me a little bit of that series (WHICH I LOVE SO MUCH), so I was hooked.

The Hollow Girl by Hillary Monahan – 5 out of 5 stars. – Review.
The Hollow Girl is hands down one of my favorite books that I read this year. I loved the story and the characters. It was creepy, it was really dark, and it is also a really important book. Feel free to check out my review for me.

Currently Reading Books:
These are the books that I started to read in the month of October, but didn’t get a chance to finish them yet.

Catacomb by Madeleine Roux
The Sword of Summer by Rick Riordan

I am really enjoying them both so far, so I am excited to finish them in November. I’m not sure of all the books I will be reading in November, but hopefully finishing these. Possibly read Without Merit and I have an eARC from Netgalley (Being Fishkill by Ruth Lehrer). I still need to finish Invictus too. It’s taking me forever to read it, but it’s mostly because I haven’t been in the mood for that type of book. I may pick it up again in November and attempt to finish it.

I also plan to listen to the audiobooks of the Razorland series, because I really want to read the fourth book that just came out. I love that series so freaking much (mentioned Enclave above). The third book (Horde) came out in 2013, so it’s been a LONG time since I’ve be in that world and I need a reread. Luckily my library has all of the audiobooks available right now.

What did you read in October? Have you read any of the books that in October? Feel free to link me to your wrap up posts, so I can check them out!

Do you have any plans for Halloween? I never got around to watching Hocus Pocus or Halloweentown yet, so I think tonight I plan to watch those movies since I watch them every October. I can’t miss this year! I went to my cousin’s Halloween party on Saturday, which was fun. Here are mine and my mom’s costumes, lol. I wore my costume (minus the mask) today for work.

Book Haul|| October.

Ahhh, what happened to October? I have my October book haul to share with you guys today. I’ve been pretty good this year about not buying a ton of books this year. This month I did buy a few more than I usually have been. Sorry for not taking pictures of the books, but I’ll share the cover from Goodreads though.

Escape from Asylum by Madeleine Roux
Without Merit by Colleen Hoover
Turtles All the Way Down by John Green
The Afterlife of Holly Chase by Cynthia Hand

Lots of release day books that I got this month. I will buy (and read) ANYTHING Colleen Hoover writes, so I had to get Without Merit. I am super stoked to read it and may try to read it in November. I have a love/hate for John Green books, but I seen Amazon had signed copies of Turtles All the Way Down, so I decided to get it. I got The Afterlife of Holly Chase because I needed more “Christmasy” books to read in December and I heard that this one is supposed to be a retelling of A Christmas Carol, so I’m stoked! And Escape from Asylum goes along with the two books I got below.

Book Outlet

Catacomb by Madeleine Roux
The Asylum Novellas by Madeleine Roux

I somehow managed to get through this year so far by only making two Book Outlet purchases. They currently have SO MANY books that I want to by, but I haven’t caved in! I did for these two though, because I wanted to have them for my Halloween TBR. Sadly, I didn’t get around to reading them though. I’m currently reading Catacomb now, but I most likely won’t have it finished before the end of tomorrow. I really enjoy the Asylum series though, so I am looking forward to reading them all. Book Outlet didn’t have Escape from Asylum, which is why I got it from Amazon.

TMI by Patty Blount
What Happened to Goodbye by Sarah Dessen

Went on a random trip to Goodwill with my mom and she got me these two books. TMI sounded pretty good. I haven’t read any books by Sarah Dessen, but I have a couple of them and everyone seems to love her books. I am looking forward to checking them out and seeing why everyone loves her books so much. Goodwill had What Happened to Goodbye, so I picked it up.

Unnatural Deeds by Cyn Balog
The Sword of Summer by Rick Riordan
When I Die by Barry Lyga

I am SUPER behind on reading Barry Lyga’s short stories and I need to catch up. When I Die is his story for October. I mentioned it before, but he’s releasing a new story every single month and it’s only available during that month. All money goes to helping the American Civil Liberties Union. ACLU defends the First Amendment. I already have a physical copy of The Sword of Summer, but the e-book was was on sale, so I got a copy of that version too. I am actually currently reading it along with Catacomb. I’ve had Unnatural Deeds on my TBR, so I was excited to see it on sale.

That’s all for my October book haul. What books did you get this month? Feel free to link me to your book haul posts, so I can check them out!

Thoughts|| The Hollow Girl.

The Hollow Girl by Hillary Monahan
5 out of 5 stars.

Goodreads Description: Five boys attacked her. Now they must repay her with their blood and flesh. Bethan is the apprentice to a green healer named Drina in a clan of Welsh Romanies. Her life is happy and ordered and modest, as required by Roma custom, except for one thing: Silas, the son of the chieftain, has been secretly harassing her. One night, Silas and his friends brutally assault Bethan and a half-Roma friend, Martyn. As empty and hopeless as she feels from the attack, she asks Drina to bring Martyn back from death’s door. “There is always a price for this kind of magic,” Drina warns. The way to save him is gruesome. Bethan must collect grisly pieces to fuel the spell: an ear, some hair, an eye, a nose, and fingers. She gives the boys who assaulted her a chance to come forward and apologize. And when they don’t, she knows exactly where to collect her ingredients to save Martyn.

I received an ARC from Netgalley in exchange for an honest review.
It was released earlier this month.

I was looking for some spooky/creepy reads for this month in celebration of Halloween and came across The Hollow Girl on Netgalley. Magic, witches, I’m all for it! I love books about witches. That’s now all this book is about though. There are so many elements to this story and some being very serious and important topics.

Bethan wants revenge on the boys that harmed her and her friend Martyn and in doing so she has to do some pretty intense things. Things that could damage a person’s sanity and change them completely. The story was pretty dark and the journey Bethan had to go on was not an easy one. I was rooting for Bethan all the way. I loved her and she did what she had to do. I felt like she grew throughout the story, especially with the things that she had to do (some pretty gory things!) and the things that were done to her. They will completely change a person.

Overall, I loved this story and I loved Bethan and Martyn. I especially loved Bethan’s relationship with her Gran. There is a strong family bond in this story, which I loved so much. Bethan went on this dark emotional journey, but she also gained so much as well. I honestly wish there was a sequel, because I would really like to see more of what happened after the things in The Hollow Girl. Perfect Halloween read or to read anytime, really. It deals with a lot of important things such as physical abuse (and more). I highly recommend checking this one out!

Random|| HUGE picture post (50+).

I haven’t been around much. I haven’t been reading much. I honestly don’t even know what I’ve been doing besides binge watching 7th Heaven again for the 32859783 time, lol. Remember my Halloweenie TBR? Well, let’s just say that hasn’t been going quite as planned since I haven’t been reading much. OOOOPS! Anyway, today I’m just going to share with you a TON of pictures that I’ve taken over the last few months. Sorry if any are repeats, I don’t remember when I last did one of these or when I have included random pictures into my posts. I think there is going to be 50+ pictures and a lot of Halloween themed ones.

I think I’ll start with the Halloween themed ones. Warning: you’re going to see a lot of pumpkin/jack-o-lantern related pictures. Pumpkins are my thing. When I look at decor or anything Halloween related, I tend to gravitate toward the pumpkins/jack-o-lanterns.

Picked up some pumpkins last week. Carving them with my niece and nephew closer to Halloween. I think every year I take a picture with my pumpkin that I buy, lol. I also usually take one with the furbabies too, but I haven’t yet this year.

I’m pretty sure every year I take a picture of my favorite Halloween themed candy too, lol. IT’S SO GOOD! Except you can only eat two before you’re sick to your stomach, lol. I found this little jack-o-lantern air plant, I’m pretty obsessed with it.

Remember when I mentioned how we had that hurricane? Well, the aftermath was nice because I was able to get my nephew to fill up my jack-o-lantern bags with leaves, LOL. I probably would have had ZERO leaves if it wasn’t for the hurricane. I’m pretty sure I posted this other picture, but I like it…so you can see it again. 😛

I HATE spiders, but I like spider rings. My older sister and I put up the some fake spider web in a plant outside of my house. It actually came out pretty decent. The hubby will be taking it down though, because I’m scared real spiders may take up home in it.

More decor. When you live in Florida, you have skeleton lawn flamingos for Halloween. 😛 I’ve been dying for these, so when I found some at Walmart I snatch them up.

Sometimes I’m a unicorn. 😛 I found these awesome skull mason jar cups. I ended up getting two. One in black and one clear. I still haven’t used them yet though. They found a place on my bookshelves instead.

I found my Hocus Pocus bracelet today. I am actually really happy that I found it before the month was over. I got it last year in a Hocus Pocus themed box. Currently wearing it as I write this post.

Speaking of bracelets. I have this crazy addiction to Puravida Bracelets right now (I own like 30+ bracelets) and I get their monthly subscription package. I love every month’s pack, but October is so far my favorite. I am currently LIVING for that skull bracelet. I have a thing for skulls as well.

I think that’s all for the Halloweenie pictures! Moving right along to some pictures that are nature/flowers, sunset, furbabies, randoms.

This is my new favorite picture I’ve ever taken so far. It was a struggle to get it, because I was scared the fly was going to fly away. It was also really windy, so that branch was blowing around. Little dude held on though and I was able to get a good shot.

The hubby and I went to see Four Year Strong this month and they were amazing as always. They played with some other bands that I liked too, especially Seaway. Such a good show.

The furbabies, of course. First picture is Leaf & October. October used to hate Little Leaf and now she loves her. Second picture is ColbyJack & Leaf. ColbyJack isn’t a fan of Leaf, so this was a rare moment for them.

First picture is Dax. He’s always that happy. I always strive to be as happy as my pup. Second picture is my three kitties together. They are never together at one time, so this is the best I could get with them eating LOL.

Sunrise. Sunset.

Peacock feather and it’s so pretty!

I am kind of obsessed with cacti.

Rusty things.

I am obsessed with taking pictures of flowers, so you’re about to see a bunch of pictures of flowers.

Yellow flowers & pink flowers.

Red & pink flowers.

White flowers.

Purple & pink flowers.

Purple flower bush and another sunset.

Palm trees & sunsets.

Fall in Florida. 😛

Converse & leaves.

My friend has a band called Sharp Tongue and they recently put out new music! I found my Bone Season pins and pinned them to my bag. I need more Warden NOW!

Random; S is for Swim. OH HEY, GNOMIE!

Slurpees, cheerios, and books.

I got new glasses! & more Puravida Bracelets.

Feel free to add me on Instagram! You can see all of these and more. You’re also seeing some of these first that I haven’t posted to Instagram yet!

Halloweenie TBR.

It’s finally October and I LOVE OCTOBER and anything Halloween and Fall and SPOOKY! A little proof; I named one of my cats October, because she makes me think of Halloween with her coloring (mostly black with hints of orange and white). I also named my newest kitten Leaf, because she makes me think of Fall colors/and leaves changing colors. She’s white, orange, and black.  😛

I try to read spooky/Halloween vibe books in the month of October. I don’t always stick to my TBRs though, so this is my “unofficial” Halloweenie TBR. I am being OVER ambitious too, because I need to have a lot of options or there is a higher possibility that I won’t stick to my TBR. I also have other options not listed if I really wasn’t feeling any of these. Without further ado, here are the books on my “unofficial” Halloweenie TBR…

Final Girls by Riley Sager
Catacomb by Madeleine Roux
The Asylum Novellas by Madeleine Roux
The Hollow Girl by Hillary Monahan
The Outside by Laura Bickle

And the Trees Crept In by Dawn Kurtagich
Library of Souls by Ransom Riggs
My Best Friend’s Exorcism by Grady Hendrix
Welcome to the Dark House by Laurie Faria Stolarz
The Girl from the Well by Rin Chupeco

The Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde by Robert Louis Stevenson
The Legend of Sleepy Hollow by Washington Irving

A lot of these were on past Halloweenie TBRs, but I never got around to reading them in 2015 or last year (2016). I think last year I actually only read two books that were on my TBR of nine, LOL. We’ll see how I do this year. There are also a couple books that I already started that I want to also try to finish this month, so I may start with these two first and then move onto my Halloween themed TBR. Those books are:

Invictus by Ryan Graudin
They Both Die at the End by Adam Silvera

Have you read any of the books on my October TBR? What do you plan to read in October? Let me know and feel free to link me to your posts if you have one! 🙂

I don’t want to leave out my other furbabies, so here is my third cat ColbyJack. He’s the oldest of the kitties. And my pup Dax; he’s the oldest of them all.

Random picture of this cute little jack-o-lantern decoration I got. I am obsessed with Halloween decor.
