FRIDAY FINDS showcases the books you ‘found’ and added to your To Be Read (TBR) list… whether you found them online, or in a bookstore, or in the library — wherever! (they aren’t necessarily books you purchased).

Hi!

I have three books to share with you guys this week that all sound like they are going to be pretty awesome reads! I’ve included the book descriptions below as well. You can see more of my TBR over on my Goodreads account over here and feel free to add me as a friend!

beingfishkill

Being Fishkill by Ruth Lehrer

Jeff Zentner was talking about this book on Twitter one day and how good it was, so I had to add it to my TBR. I was also lucky to get approved for it on Netgalley as well. I am STOKED! Release date is November 14th!

Goodreads Description: Born in the backseat of a moving car, Carmel Fishkill was unceremoniously pushed into a world that refuses to offer her security, stability, love. At age thirteen, she begins to fight back. Carmel Fishkill becomes Fishkill Carmel, who deflects her tormenters with a strong left hook and conceals her secrets from teachers and social workers. But Fishkill’s fierce defenses falter when she meets eccentric optimist Duck-Duck Farina, and soon they, along with Duck-Duck’s mother, Molly, form a tentative family, even as Fishkill struggles to understand her place in it. This fragile new beginning is threatened by the reappearance of Fishkill’s unstable mother — and by unfathomable tragedy. Poet Ruth Lehrer’s young adult debut is a stunning, revelatory look at what defines and sustains “family.” And, just as it does for Fishkill, meeting Duck-Duck Farina and her mother will leave readers forever changed.

devilsandthieves

Devils & Thieves by Jennifer Rush

Magic and motorcycle gangs, yessssss! I am all about books that have motorcycle gangs in them ever since reading Nowhere But Here. It also sounds so freaking good! I am crossing my fingers I get an ARC from The Novl for this one. They are giving away 30 copies in their newsletter this month! Release date is October 3rd!

Goodreads Description: Eighteen-year-old Jemmie Carmichael has grown up surrounded by magic in the quiet town of Hawthorne, New York. In her world, magic users are called “kindled,” and Jemmie would count herself among them if only she could cast a simple spell without completely falling apart. It doesn’t help that she was also recently snubbed by Crowe, the dangerous and enigmatic leader of the Black Devils kindled motorcycle gang and the unofficial head of their turf. When the entire kindled community rolls into Hawthorne for an annual festival, a rumour begins spreading that someone is practising forbidden magic. Then people start to go missing. With threats closing in from every side, no one can be trusted. Jemmie and Crowe will have to put aside their tumultuous history to find their loved ones, and the only thing that might save them is the very flaw that keeps Jemmie from fully harnessing her magic. For all her years of feeling useless, Jemmie may just be the most powerful kindled of all.

howtodisappear

How to Disappear by Sharon Huss Roat

This book sounds like it’s going to be really good. I like that it has social media involved in the story. I don’t know why, but I like reading books that involves social media in some way. By the sounds of it, I think it’ll also have mental health issues in it as well. Overall, it just sounds like it’ll be a really good read. I believe that How to Disappear released this week. I need to get a copy!

Goodreads Description: Vicky Decker has perfected the art of hiding in plain sight, quietly navigating the halls of her high school undetected except by her best (and only) friend, Jenna. But when Jenna moves away, Vicky’s isolation becomes unbearable. So she decides to invent a social life by Photoshopping herself into other people’s pictures, posting them on Instagram under the screen name Vicurious. Instantly, she begins to get followers, so she adds herself to more photos from all over the world with all types of people. And as Vicurious’s online followers multiply, Vicky realizes she can make a whole life for herself without ever leaving her bedroom. But the more followers she finds online, the clearer it becomes that there are a lot of people out there who feel like her— #alone and #ignored in real life. To help them, and herself, Vicky must find the courage to face her fear of being “seen,” because only then can she stop living vicariously and truly bring the magic of Vicurious to life.

Have you added any new books to your TBR? Feel free to link me to your posts if you have one or leave a comment letting me know what new books you added to your TBR. 🙂
