Cinder by Marissa Meyer
4 OUT OF 5 STARS.

“While her sisters were given beautiful dresses and fine slippers, Cinderella had only a filthy smock and wooden shoes.”

Goodreads Description: Humans and androids crowd the raucous streets of New Beijing. A deadly plague ravages the population. From space, a ruthless lunar people watch, waiting to make their move. No one knows that Earth’s fate hinges on one girl. Cinder, a gifted mechanic, is a cyborg. She’s a second-class citizen with a mysterious past, reviled by her stepmother and blamed for her stepsister’s illness. But when her life becomes intertwined with the handsome Prince Kai’s, she suddenly finds herself at the center of an intergalactic struggle, and a forbidden attraction. Caught between duty and freedom, loyalty and betrayal, she must uncover secrets about her past in order to protect her world’s future.

After wanting to read Cinder for two years, it finally happened! I actually read this book pretty quickly, because it was hard to put down! It was such an easy read and the way it was written made it so easy and fun to want to continue to see what happened next. There wasn’t a time where I wanted to put the book down and stop reading; I applaud Marissa Meyer for that! Her writing style was great!

I really enjoyed Cinder’s character and thought she was written perfectly. She was such a cool character and such a tough cookie at times too. I felt so bad for her and I despised her stepmother and stepsister Pearl. Any of the scenes that they were in really made me angry. I loved Prince Kai throughout the book, but I wasn’t sure how I felt about him at the end. I was really disappointed in him.

It was interesting reading this retelling with cyborgs and androids thrown into it. I’ve never read any books about cyborgs; at least not that I can think of. It was really cool and like I said before, a really fun read. I did have a problem with it and probably the only reason why I didn’t give this book a 5 out of 5. That problem is being that I guessed about Cinder waaaaaay before it was ever mentioned in the book. I wanted to be shocked and have that “OMG” moment, but I wasn’t and it didn’t happen. I seen it all coming and that sucked.

Overall, it was a great read and I am so glad that I finally picked it up! I know everyone loves this series, so I am interested in seeing what happens next and seeing why everyone is so in love with these books! If you are one of the last people on Earth that haven’t read this book (like I was), I definitely recommend it! Hard to put down, fun, easy to read! And CYBORGS!

“Vanity is a factor, but it is more a question of control. It is easier to trick others into perceiving you as beautiful if you can convince yourself you are beautiful. But mirrors have an uncanny way of telling the truth.”

ColbyJack demanding my attention and not wanting me to read. 😛 “HEY MOM, I’M CUTE, LOOK AT MEEEEE”.

Have you read Cinder (of course you have 😛)? If so, what did you think? If not, do you think you will?

I will most likely be binge reading the rest of the series in November as soon as I finish my current read. I know a lot of people are waiting on Winter and I don’t want to accidentally be spoiled! So I want to try to read them and Winter in November. I’ll be posting my October recap post sometime over the weekend, so be on the lookout for that! I did post my October book haul a few days ago and you can check that out over here.

I hope you have a great day!

  1. oh hey, I’ll be reading the rest of the series this month as well 😀

I saw it coming miles and miles away 😦 it was obvious from the very first moment they mention it… 😦
I do like Kai though, he was put in an impossible situation and learning about her abilities made it harder for him to believe her, I can understand that, considering how much he has to suffer to stand his own to Levana.

    • Yeah, I pretty much seen it coming as soon as it was mentioned as well. 😦 I really liked Kai, but I think the thing that made me angry with him was when he told Cinder that she was more hideous to look at than Levana. I mean I know it was a shocker to find all that stuff out, but GEEZ that was mean!

      • Yeah, I’m not sure either! I really hope it was just a way to keep her alive, because I really did like him throughout the book. I was rooting for them the entire time, so I was sad and angry when that came out of his mouth!

      • yeah, 😦 me too. but he was trying the keep her alive the whole time, so I really want to believe that he said that for the same reason.
And if he (hope not) meant it, I hope it was for the lunar thing and not the cyborg thing =/

      • I was going to start it right after finishing Cinder, but then I remembered my sister let me borrow a book and I’ve had it for two months now (oops, lol), so I decided to finally read that one first. I defintely want to try to read the rest of the Lunar Chronicles in November though, because I know everyone is waiting for Winter and I don’t want to accidentally see spoilers! I know here and social media is going to go crazy with it!

  2. I won a copy of this book, I haven’t read it yet. Hopefully I will enjoy it as much as you or even more, depending on if I guess what you guessed…..?
    Great review, Amanda.

  3. I loved this book so much!! Glad you enjoyed it as well. Midway through Scarlet and loving that too! Hope to catch up before Winter is out 😛

    • I hope to catch up before Winter as well, but I’m not sure that’s going to happen. I definitely plan to try to read them all in November though. 🙂 Glad you’re enjoying Scarlet! Hopefully I’ll be starting that one sometime next week.

  4. The “big shock” at the end is the most obvious thing ever! But you’re right CYBORGS! I’m so glad your going to binge read the series! You’ll get to be a part of all the flailing fangirling for Winter that way!
